Newstovote - U.S. Defence Secretary, Chuck Hagel, ordered the aircraft carrier and other naval fleet to the Philippines to help the victims of Haiyan Typhoon. It is reported the Pentagon said in a statement.
Reported by Channel News Asia, the aircraft carrier USS George Washington was docked in the middle of Hong Kong harbor and is expected to arrive in the Philippines on Tuesday, 12 November 2013. The aircraft carrier carrying 5,000 sailors and 80 aircraft and helicopters.
"To accompany the aircraft carrier, also lowered cruiser USS Antietam and USS Cowpen, and the destroyer USS Mustin. Logistics ship USNS Charles Drew middle to get there and will meet with the other ship," a Pentagon statement said.
Pentagon continued, crew and aircraft on the aircraft carrier USS George Washington has prepared for disaster management. Including, aircraft disasters is the mainstay for the MH-60S Seahawk helicopter, flown Sea Combat Squadron 12 and Squadron 77 Helicopter Maritime Attacker.
"If necessary, ships and aircraft can provide humanitarian assistance, logistics, and medical and government efforts to support the military of the Republic of the Philippines," the Pentagon said.
Previously, the U.S. on Monday announced the provision of humanitarian aid worth U.S. $ 20 million for the victims of Haiyan, the biggest typhoon in the world this year. Estimated death toll rose to more than 10,000 people.
