Newstovote - Three people were killed and seven others injured when Haiyan Typhoon hit the Philippines today. This typhoon is touted as the world's strongest storm this year.
Super Haiyan Typhoon hit coastal areas on the island of Samar, about 600 kilometers southeast of Manila, the Philippine capital. The cyclone hit with winds of around 315 kilometers per hour.
" We have been getting reports of uprooted trees, strong winds ... and the destruction of houses made of light materials, " said Philippine Red Cross chief Gwendolyn Pang told AFP on Friday ( 11/08/2013 ) .
" We have put the rescue teams and equipment at a number of locations. However at this time we can not do much due to heavy rain and strong winds, " said Pang.
According to a spokesman for the government agency , the Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council National, Reynaldo balido, three people have been confirmed dead and one missing in Cebu.
But the death toll expected to increase given the authority has not been able to contact the areas hardest hit by the storm. Moreover Typhoon Haiyan not expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility tonight.
" The wind was so strong that the wind knocked down all the banana trees around the house, " said one resident, Jessa Aljibe who live in the city Borongan, Samar.
All calls to the city shortly after the storm hit and then loses. Typhoon Haiyan also have triggered flash floods in a number of locations. Not known whether there are victims in the flood.
